Question 5

During my research, I found out what settings work for comedy films. This is normally big cities, hence why I chose Sheffield at the start.
I also found out about the protagonists, these are normally younger males, however I found a select few films that used older male characters that were successful.
The lighting for comedy films is nearly always bright, so I stuck to that ensuring my production fits with conventions.
For my titling, I based it around other comedy films such as Four Lions, with the simple white text.

City to country transition

To make the switch between the city scene and the country scene smoother, I have filmed some ariel footage with my drone of Maltby, showing a housing estate with some greenery. The shot after this is of the car driving through an estate, so the clips match well. I have also used my drone to film some green fields, to use just before the establishing shot of Roche Abbey.

The quality of the camera on the drone isn't as high as the one I have used to film the rest of my footage, however I think that the dramatic shot, used relatively quickly, takes the viewers' attention away from the poorer quality. I do think the shot is effective and does make the transition smoother.

Day to night transition

I have altered the transition between day and night by adding in a time lapse of a sunset to represent the changing of time. This fades in over him drinking and fades out to the black before the night shots.

Titling trial 2.

I couldn't get the numberplate to work for the titling, so I changed it to look asif it was written on the floor in chalk.

Transition from day to night changes

From the feedback I got, I saw that the part where it changes from him drinking to the night scenes were unclear that that was representing him having a night out, so I changed the transitions and added an effect to add to this, I will also eventually change the sound to make it sound faded out asif he is drunk to add to the narrative and clear any misconceptions up.

Titling trial

I tried changing the titling so that the name of my production ( Memory Is Key) was written on the numberplate of the car, this didn't work very well...

Updated schedule

I have rearranged my schedule to allow time for using my feedback that I got to improve my production and to give me time to re-film shots that were shaky and not a high standard. I will also try to develop my narrative through editing and collecting more footage.

Initial planning ideas

Similar films in my genre with same rating

Films rated PG in the comedy genre which are similar to my production include:
Paul Blary Mall Cop (2009)

Men in Black (1997)

Home Alone (1990)

These are all similar to my production in terms of content it is classified on, they are not too similar in terms of storyline.

First draft of my production

Classifications

Using the guidelines published on the BBFC website, I have decided that I should classify my production as a PG. This means that the film should be fine for anyone aged 8 and up, however any child can watch this. It is advisable for parents to decide whether the content is suitable for younger/more sensitive children to watch.
I have chosen PG as the rating because it hasn't used any discriminatory actions/language and doesn't show/reference drug use. There has been no real imitable behaviour and the language has been clean thus far. However, later on, bad language may be used, possibly pushing it up to a 12.

Production - transitions, effects & sound effects

I have added some transition, filters and sound effects into my production, this has already vastly improved it i think. I haven't yet finalised the soundtrack yet as I am waiting on permission to use the track.

Production - Titling

I have added my titles to the video. They could do with some more work to make them more natural and fit in better, but they are not too bad for now.

Production - editing

I have begun editing my footage together, and have got it down to just under five minutes, so it still needs tome work, but it is coming on well.

Filming

On the 4th November and on bonfire night I filmed some short clips to use during the transition between the two days in my opening title sequence. I then began editing these to reduce the work after the main filming which I will do on Wednesday (11th November)

Location scouting - lesson time & prep time

I have visited some locations during the last two weeks to look for filming locations.
Rother Valley Country Park
Park Hill looking over Sheffield
